Overview
The oral radiology department in the Faculty of Dentistry, Suez Canal University is a clinical department committed, to providing distinctive undergraduate and postgraduate theoretical education, clinical skills, and professional knowledge. This is in addition to participation in recent oral and maxillofacial research. Our department provides a high-quality community service, related to the field of Oral and maxillofacial imaging.
Goals
- Teaching undergraduate dental students (4th-year students) the physics of x-ray production, image characteristics, and conventional and advanced radiographic techniques, that are used for maxillofacial imaging, radiographic interpretation of anatomy, and different pathologies affecting the teeth and jaws. In addition to radiation biology and protection. Clinical sessions include safe exposure, processing of intra-oral radiographs, and training of the professional skills necessary, to practice the art of radiographic interpretation and differential diagnosis.
- Introducing Oral Radiology, as a basic science course for students enrolled in Master’s degree in all clinical and academic departments in the faculty.
- Offering the required updated knowledge and clinical skills, to post-graduate students specialized in the field of Oral Radiology.
- To allow students to use advanced technologies related to the field of maxillofacial imaging professionally.
- Developing their analytic skills and encouraging their transformation into independent researchers.
- Providing post-graduate students enrolled in other specialties in the faculty, with a high-quality radiographic examination technique, required to implement their clinical research projects and thesis at a location close to their departments.
- Offering patients attending the clinical faculty departments -as well as to the general public- high-quality intraoral and extra-oral analogue and digital radiographic examination techniques, including panoramic, cephalometric, and 3-D Cone Beam Computed Tomography.
- Supplying faculty members and post-graduate students, with a large database of films from the archives of the department computers that can be, extensively used for retrospective research and cross-sectional studies under the framework of ethical considerations used for the preservation of patient privacy and rights.
- Collaborating with other faculty departments towards implementing updated research using the department facilities and resources of radiographic machines and image analysis soft-wares.
